OUR HISTORY

Over A Decade of Devotion:

The History of Acts of Random Kindness Christian Center

Founded on the principles of service and spiritual growth, Acts of Random Kindness (A.R.K.) Christian Center began its journey in December 2013. The ministry held its inaugural service in the auditorium of A.B. Day Elementary School on Crittenden Street in Philadelphia, Pa., planting the seeds for what would become a cornerstone of the Philadelphia community.

Foundations and Early Growth (2014–2015)

The first year of ministry was defined by rapid expansion and the establishment of core traditions. In 2014, the A.R.K. launched the Mantastic Men’s Conference, the Praise Dance ministry, and the Youth Department. Demonstrating an immediate commitment to its neighbors, the church also established its signature community outreach programs: the Annual Backpack and School Supplies Giveaway and the Thanksgiving Dinner Basket Giveaway. By the end of 2014, the church celebrated its first anniversary with Pastor Keon Gerow and installed its first deacon, O’Neal McFadden.

The following year brought a season of transition and structural development. In August 2015, the A.R.K. moved to 100 W. Chelten Avenue. This move coincided with the launch of the Multi-media, Security, and H.U.G. (Hospitality/Ushers/Greeters) ministries. The year concluded with the 2nd Anniversary featuring Pastor Lonnie Herndon and the church’s first official ordination service for Elders and Ministers.

Expanding the Reach (2016–2018)

As the congregation grew, so did its fellowship and specialized ministries. From the first Annual Church Bar-B-Cue in 2016 to the establishment of the S.H.A.R.E. monthly food distribution program in early 2017, the A.R.K. remained dedicated to feeding both the soul and the body.

2017 and 2018 saw the birth of the Beyond Blessed Women’s Conference in Lancaster, PA, and a surge in targeted ministries, including:

  • The Bridge Ministry: Tailored for Millennials (ages 21-35).
  • Vacation Bible School: Launching a new era of summer youth engagement.
  • The A.R.K. Singles Ministry.
  • MANCAVE Mondays: Strengthening the brotherhood within the church.

A Legacy of Resilience and Ownership (2019–2024)

Throughout its journey, the A.R.K. has been blessed by the wisdom of various guest speakers and leaders during its annual anniversaries, including Pastor Alice Martin, Pastor Steven Martin, Evangelist Tiny Lucas, and Co-Pastor Wanda Frazier Parker.

The church marked a monumental milestone in December 2023 by celebrating a full decade of ministry. This ten-year journey of “random kindness” and intentional faith culminated in December 2024 with a historic achievement: the purchase of its own building at 3956-62 N. 16th Street, Philadelphia.

Today, Acts of Random Kindness Christian Center stands as a testament to what can be achieved through faith, community service, and a steadfast commitment to the call of God.
